What a treat to spend Thanksgiving Day in Rome at the Vatican!
What a treat to spend Thanksgiving Day in Rome at the Vatican! We spent the morning at the Spanish Steps, then headed to the Vatican, where we toured with our buddy Jim Gaffigan! OK so maybe we just happened to bump into our comedic idol there, but still! How fun is that?! We then stood in awe at the Sistine Chapel and walked the kids through the story of each painting… And took the Rick Steve’s tip of exiting with a tour group (that we aren’t a part of) and getting right to the door of St. Peter’s Basilica! We took in the masterpieces there and then headed up..up..up.. all of the stairs.. to the very top of the dome! Stunning views of the city! ❤️ We then took an Uber to the Traversere Neighborhood for incredible pasta and pizza! We walked from there, to the Cat Sanctuary – where 130 cats roam the ruins (ruins that people are prohibited from roaming) and you can go downstairs and pet the cats being cared for by City Volunteers! So random and fun! Then headed to the Pantheon where we sat on the steps and listened to live music under the moonlight. We ended the day with THE most amazing meal – at Hostaria Costanza… an old restaurant that sits under the remains of The Pompeo Theatre – built in 61 bc. And the place/area where Julius Caesar was killed! It was beyond. We just got to our room and are packed up, ready to head to Florence in the morning! We loved you, Rome!!!! (PS sorry for the daily updates, but if I don’t post now, I’ll forget. And this way it’s good to go for my annual My Social Book I print each year!)
